Softball: Matadors have another 0-5 weekend in Las Vegas

Things couldn’t get worse for CSUN after it started its season by going 0-5 while being outscored 50-5 at the Kajikawa Classic a week ago. Unfortunately for them, things didn’t get better either.

CSUN followed up a more-than-inauspicious season-opening weekend with an equally-poor trip to Las Vegas in which it faced five teams and lost to all of them. The Matadors (0-10) were outscored 54-12 this time around.

The Matadors started the UNLV Louisville Classic Friday with their best performance of 2012 so far. CSUN led Utah State 2-0 after the first inning following the first of two home runs by catcher Mikayla Thielges.

A back-and-forth battle ensued. CSUN tied the game at 6-6 with a two-run fifth inning, but the Aggies scored six runs in the sixth to put it away.

Later that same day, the Matadors were blasted by BYU, 11-1. CSUN led 1-0 before BYU came up with an 11-run fourth inning.

It was more of the same on Saturday as CSUN fell to LSU, 11-0, and Hawaii, 8-0. Sunday, it was Utah adding to CSUN’s misery with a 12-2 mauling.
