A two-out two-run single in the top of the seventh inning was the difference as Rhode Island had the last laugh in a back-and-forth game Tuesday afternoon at Matador Field.
Ram Milan Adams played the role of hero as his single defeated CSUN, 5-4, in the first game of a two-game home series against Rhode Island. The rematch will be played today at 3 p.m.
The Matadors led 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning after Miles Williams singled to left center to score outfielder Adam Barry. CSUN’s Matthew Moreno had scored a tying run moments earlier thanks to a Rhode Island wild pitch followed by a fielding error.
But with only one out left in the top of the seventh, the Rams capitalized on a loaded-bases situation to score the winning runs.
CSUN got two men on base in the bottom of the ninth, but first baseman Marty Bowen grounded out to second base to end the game.
