CSUN student dies in hit-and-run car accident

CSUN student Corinne McClane was killed in a hit-and-run accident March 18 at about 1:55 a.m. in the mid-Wilshire district. She was 22 years old.

McClane was crossing Wilshire Boulevard and South Ridgeley Drive when she was hit, said Officer J. Kim, of the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division.

McClane, a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, was taken to Cedar Sinai Medical Center, Kim said.

Police are looking for the driver and have requested the public’s help.

“She was so happy,” said KKG President Jennifer Dineen, a junior health science major who knew McClane for about three years. “She didn’t have time for a frown.”

A memorial service for McClane was held last night at 7 p.m. at the University Student Union.

McClane would have graduated this semester as a kinesiology major, Dineen said.

“She cared more about the well being of those around her,” Dineen said. “She would drop anything and everything to be with you.”

McClane joined KKG about three years ago, was secretary, then treasurer and became president, Dineen said. She was an easygoing and laidback person, but “you knew when she was passionate about something because her eyes lit up,” she said.

Dineen said other Greek organizations on campus helped with the memorial.

Dineen said she is thankful for people who showed their support by sending flowers and cards.

McClane was president of KKG from Spring 2005 to Fall 2005, Dineen said.

“She was a leader of 85 women, and we all looked up to her,” Dineen said.

KKP is accepting donations for a scholarship in McClane’s name. Donations can be sent to the attention of Jennifer Dineen at 8932 Darby Ave., Northridge, Calif.
