Many polling places are inside schools, libraries and public buildings, but for precinct 9000304A in Chatsworth voters visit Alyce Garcia’s house.
Garcia and her neighbors have been running the polling place for their precinct out of their houses for almost the past 20 years.
Joseph Martin, a precinct officer, used to offer up his living room for the polling place until handing that responsibility to Garcia nearly 10 years ago.
Martin describes the job of precinct officers as making sure everyone gets to vote and that their votes can be counted.
Both Martin and Garcia agreed, “If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain.”
