Two former CSUN students were sentenced to 36 months probation, and 60 days in jail or 30 days of Caltrans work Tuesday at the San Fernando Superior Court, having plead “no contest” to `misdemeanor charges from the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office that they hacked into a professor’s Web portal account to commit identity fraud.
Lena Chen, 20, and Jennifer Ngan, 19, were ordered to stay away from campus and the political science professor whose account they hacked into to uncover identifying information and order magazine subscriptions, pizza and a shipment of CDs, said Frank Mateljan, spokesman for the L.A. City Attorney’s Office. The two also used the account to change their grades and that of 300 classmates.
Chen and Ngan are next scheduled to appear at the San Fernando Superior Court on Oct. 19 for a restitution hearing. They could not be reached for comment.
