The women’s basketball teams quest for a comeback to respectability begins on Nov. 14 with a regular-season opening road game at Rice University, a rematch from last season. The Matadors went 0-21 to start the 2007-08 season before finally getting a victory, 73-72, at Cal State Bakersfield. The team ended up 1-26 and, needless to say, did not see postseason play.
The new team is in hopes of building a name for the Matador program and will have two exhibition games at home before their match at Rice.
Northridge will also take part in two tournaments: the Great Alaska Shootout and the UNLV Holiday Tournament. The Matadors will play their first regular-season home game on Nov. 19 against the San Diego Toreros. They begin conference play on Jan. 1 at Pacific.
