Fall trends on campus

With a turning of the seasons and the semester in full swing there is one thing that CSUN students never cease to fall short of, style. In reality, most students spend their money on books so they can not always afford high end apparel featured in the public eye.

Managing to keep up with trends is a task but students are consciously aware.
‘I am always trying to keep up with the new trends, but at a bargain price,’ said sophomore Natalie Malchev. She was wearing black leggings and an embellished top from Forever 21 a popular look for ladies.

Retailers now are succumbing to the economy and offering consumers more fashion options at lower costs. Forever 21 known for their reasonably priced items now offer men a variety of apparel at select locations.’

Self-image is important to college students when making fashion based decisions.
‘Your clothes are the first thing people see on you so your style reflects your personality and who you are,’ said Junior Stephanie DeGuzman. She was spotted wearing True Religion jeans and an Abercrombie and Fitch T-shirt.

Being stylish and comfortable is a theme most evident on campus this season.
‘I love to throw on a cute T-shirt and skinny jeans when I go to school, it’s flattering, easy and cozy,’ said DeGuzman.

Alex Karaman an employee at M. Fredric in Sherman Oaks shared a few tips for the men on campus.

Karaman said loose shirts and pants are a thing of the past and this season its all about fitted shirts with art paired with jeans that fit well. He added that dark washes and black jeans are also in when worn with slim fitted t-shirts or v-necks. Karaman also mentioned a stripped shirt with a casual pair of jeans is a quintessential look.

‘I think that plaid shirts are in for guys this fall, you see a lot of button down shirts with dark washed jeans around campus,’ said junior Eric Chavez. ‘That is what it’s all about this fall, a classic and comfortable look.’

For males looking for a clean classic look, Jeff Talyor an employee at Urban outfitters Sherman Oaks said the preppy look is in. By incorporating button down shirts with fitted jeans and boat shoes guys can follow the fall trends.’

For the ladies, Sarah Johnson who also works at Urban Outfitters said the demand for skinny jeans is high and girls with patterned scarves seem to be everywhere.

‘We are always selling out of skinny jeans. They are in this fall, and you can never go wrong with a pair of nice skinny jeans to compliment your body type plus they are so comfy and go with anything,’ said Johnson.

Fellow employee Rachel Hughes said that layering clothes is a must for girls and recommends doing so with bright colors like red, orange, hot pink, bright green, with black and grey being the base color. She added that leopard print is fashionable this season and suggested that bold jewelry to touch up any simple outfit was a good idea.

‘It’s amazing what jewelry can do when you want to dress up your wardrobe,’ said Malchev.’ She also said that wearing flat boots with jeans was a perfect way to add a classic touch to an outfit.

No matter what the season one thing remains constant, the pursuit of a stylish, comfortable wardrobe is always among us.

‘What inspired my fashion?’ said senior Matthew O’Neill. ‘Taking bits and pieces from every style; a rocker and a surfer is how I dress, that’s what makes a person stylish, their way of putting pieces together.’
