The Goo Goo Dolls have recently released a limited edition CD/DVD containing greatest hits, cover songs, rarities and live songs over the span of the band’s long career.
The Goo Goo Dolls have been in the music scene since 1985, as a local cover band that played at local bars in Buffalo, New York. The Goo Goo Dolls have evolved from a scrappy punk band to a chart toping, Grammy nominated success over two decades.
This volume contains 15 original songs and seven cover songs including Stevie Nick’s ‘I Don’t Want to Know’ and Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl.’
Goo Goo dolls Vol.2 gives fans an idea of the direction of the band’s career and their roots. The Goo Goo Dolls transformed into a softer alternative rock band than what they started out as in Buffalo.
The tracks on this album are comprised from seven different albums throughout their career. Songs include ‘Hate This Place’ from the album Dizzy Up The Girl, ‘Without You Here’ from the album Let Love In, and ‘Torn Apart’ from the album The Goo Goo Dolls. For fans that just know the band based on their recent success, this gives the audience a taste of where the Goo Goo dolls originated from, and where they got their inspiration.
The Demo version of the hit song ‘Iris’ is on the CD in it’s rarest form. Fans can hear the original version of the chart topping song ‘Iris’ from the soundtrack of City of Angels and how it first sounded when they recorded it.
Every song on this album is different. The sound changes from a raucous garage band to a softer alternative rock sound. No song sounds the same. With this CD, the Goo Goo Dolls show their versatility and their ability to perform different types of music.
The songs that are performed live on the album show what the band sounds like in concert. Sometimes fans are disappointed when they see their favorite band in concert because they sound nothing like they do in the studio. The Goo Goo Dolls showcase live songs on this album to show that they are not one of these bands and will not be a disappointment when in concert.
There are two parts to this album. Part one is a CD with 22 of their historic songs, and part two is a DVD that includes 17 videos and 6 songs that are performed live at Red Rocks. The videos include chart toppers such as: ‘Iris’, ‘Black Balloon’, ‘Let Love in’, ‘Broadway’ and others. These videos are available for fans to watch their favorite videos.
The Goo Goo Dolls are three members who consist of John Rzeznik guitar and vocals, Robby Takac, bass guital and vocals, and Mike Malinin drums and percussion. All of the songs are written by John Rzeznik, and some by the whole band.
Goo Goo Dolls Vol. 2 offers a look inside the band’s history. There is over two and a half hours of music in this collection. Whether you are a Goo Goo Dolls fan, or just a music fan, this CD is good for all types of people. The quality and content is abundant in this volume of greatest hits. This is a good way to look at the success of the Goo Goo Dolls over a period of two decades, and the shifts in their career to make them who they are today.
