California State University has declared for the first time in its history a ‘systemwide impaction’ for the CSU system as it faces a $66.3 million mid-year budget cut. The CSU expects to turn away 10,000 eligible students enrolling in fall 2009.’
CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed released a statement today stating that the CSU is ‘forced to make this difficult decision’ because state of California is not able to provide efficient amount of resources to the CSU system.
‘We cannot admit students if we are unable to provide adequate classes or instruction, support services or classroom facilities. We are taking this step to ensure the academic quality of the institution,’ Reed said.
