Debuting her talents on the college stage for her first time, freshman Vivian Lin was named the Big West Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Lin, a Hong Kong native, begins her career with back to back singles victories in her first two home matchups.

Individually she started off the season with a pair of victories during a home 7-0 sweep of the Westmont Warriors (0-1). The following day her commanding win over the Air Force Falcons (6-2) was key in boosting a Matador win.

On the doubles court, Lin teamed up with junior Criss Rodriguez in the No. 1 draw to go on and win both of their doubles matchups by a margin of 8-1 against Westmont and 8-5 against Air Force.

On day two Lin fell behind early in the top singles draw but ended up pulling away from the Air Force Falcons’ Tiffany Tran with a singles victory that solidified another Matador victory.

The Matadors (2-0) open up conference play Saturday at noon with another home match against the Cal Poly Mustangs (1-1).
