Sip away V-Day with these drinks

What’s Valentine’s Day without a special drink to sip with a person you love? Whether it’s your parents, grandparents, children, friends or significant others, there’s something for everybody involved in your life.

Pink Hot Chocolate

Cicely Chisholm/Lifestyle Editor

Time: 15 minutes

Cost: $10

Makes: 6 servings

This recipe is perfect in case alcohol isn’t your thing, or you’re spending Valentine’s Day with those who can’t drink. It’s perfect in case you’re spending the day with children too.

What You’ll Need:

-12 oz. can of evaporated milk

-12 oz. bag of white chocolate chips

-3 or 4 cups of whole milk

-Red food coloring

-Whipped Cream (optional)

-Marshmallows (optional)

-Sprinkles (optional)

What to Do:

-In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips and evaporated milk.

-I’d recommend stirring constantly so the chips don’t stick to the bottom.

-Once melted, add the whole milk. How much depends on your taste so do it a cup at a time.

-When everything is hot, move off the heat.

-Add one drop at a time of the food coloring until you get the color you like. I did three for a light pink.

-If you want, you can add whipped cream, marshmallows and sprinkles depending on how you do your usual hot chocolate.

This recipe is very sweet! It might even be sweeter than using regular milk chocolate. It was very smooth and creamy, and if you love white chocolate this is right up your alley.

Campari and IPA Spritzer

Cicely Chisholm/Lifestyle Editor

Time: 5 minutes

Cost: $25

Makes: 1 serving

The only reason the price is so high is because of the price of the Campari but if you have it already, a single bottle of IPA will probably be around $5. This is for everyone who loves a bitter taste in his or her alcohol.

What You’ll Need:

-Shot of Campari

-Half a 6 oz bottle of IPA beer

-Lemon twist (optional garnish)

What to Do:

-Fill a glass with ice.

-Add the Campari.

-Slowly pour in the beer.

-If using a lemon peel, squeeze it over the drink before dropping it in.

It’s definitely a good summer drink as well, so keep the Campari around for future recipes. One bottle can take you far.

Strawberry Champagne

Cicely Chisholm/Lifestyle Editor

Time: 5 minutes

Cost: $20

In case you want to be a little more fancy, this recipe is for you. You might have champagne already for a special date, so this will just add extra flavor to make it sweet.

What You’ll Need:

-1 ½ tablespoons of strawberry puree

-1 tablespoon of grenadine

-Strawberries (optional garnish)

What to Do:

-Pour the strawberry and grenadine into a champagne flute.

-Slowly fill the rest with the champagne.

-Stir until it’s all mixed together.

I’d recommend just buying a packet of strawberries and pureeing it yourself if you can. Despite all the ingredients, it didn’t have a sickly sweet taste. This might be my favorite of the three because you get a subtle hint of all of the flavors.
