Dr. Geek on porn: The sneaky computer killer

You like porn, huh? Well, me too. I am sure a large number of you have your own collection of porn somewhere on your computer from pictures that you saved or received from adult websites, movies or videos that you downloaded, and even fake pictures of nude celebrities. Yes, they’re fake!

I bet you are wondering why your computer is running slow and why you are getting tons of popups every time you hop on the internet. Well, wonder no more. I am here to tell you why.

Porn is one of the worst ways you can mess up a great running computer. Just by going to these adult websites, you are opening yourself up to adware and spyware.

Adware is ad supported software and is the main cause of popups. Spyware is software that gathers information about a user and sends it to someone or a company for marketing or other purposes. Adware and spyware are usually downloaded onto your computer without your knowledge. These are the top causes of popups and slow running computers.

I know that some of you are downloading clips from these XXX websites, thinking that because it is just a clip, nothing will happen to your computer but if you have ever watched Family Feud, “XXX” means you just lost.

When you download them from the websites, you are also downloading anything that comes with them, which may include, viruses, adware, spyware, or unwanted software. Even video clips and full-length videos downloaded from file sharing software are not completely safe either. A lot of file sharing software requests that you register the clip or full-length video that you downloaded, which includes all the unwanted viruses, adware, spyware, and software in the download, too. It is kind of like playing Russian Roulette with your computer.

Pictures that you save from the Internet often contain really nasty viruses, especially naughty pictures. Some of you are probably not saving the pictures at all, and are just clicking on them so you can look at them in their own window on the Internet. Just to let you know, unless you have configured your computer not to save your Internet history, everything that you click on gets saved in your computer, even pictures. The best suggestion I have for you is to not look for naughty pictures on the Internet, or don’t click on any pictures that you see on the Internet within a website.

Now, hope I am not scaring all you porn lovers, and I am definitely not telling you to stop watching porn, because that would make me a hypocrite.

There is a wrong way to watch porn and there is a right way to watch porn. The best thing to do is to get spyware and adware removal software and get yourself a good anti-virus program (Norton Anti-virus is not the definition of a good anti-virus program. It never catches anything). Some of the best anti-virus software you can get can be found and downloaded for free online. The one that works the best, in my opinion, can be found at www.avast.com. You should also have a computer tech configure your Internet settings so you won’t get any viruses. This is a good tip for maintaining all computers, even if you do not go to adult websites.
