Nerdier Pourat, CSUN alumna and director of UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, will discuss her research on assessing ethnic, racial and other disparities in access to care of under-served populations. Pourat has examined the differences between access to cervical and breast cancer screenings for undocumented immigrants, injured workers and Asian Americans. Pourat is a professor of health services at UCLA and a member of the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. The free event requires attendees to RSVP through Eventbrite. Take an hour-long break from class, tan by the pool and listen to music spun by a live DJ at the Student Recreation Center Pool. Throw on your bathing suit because the first 100 CSUN students that show up in a suit will get a free Subway lunch box. The poolside DJ party will also have a raffle and the chance to win prizes. If you search the business, Johnny Cupcakes, on Yelp many users ask the question, “Johnny Cupcakes doesn’t sell cupcakes?” Yep, that’s correct. Instead of baked goods, the store is transformed into the world’s first “T-shirt bakery.” Johnny Earle, founder of Johnny Cupcakes, turned his passion into a multi-million dollar business. Earle will speak at CSUN and give attendees special treats about being an entrepreneur. Earle has been named America’s No.1 Young Entrepreneur by Bloomberg Business, he’s been featured on MTV, NPR and thousands of customers have camped outside his shops just to buy limited edition tees. CSUN choreographers and dancers will showcase their talents in the upcoming spring dance concert of “Kinesis.” The annual show is put on by the department of kinesiology. These passionate performers will showcase their creative and artistic voice. The artists will combine the discipline of dance, storytelling and creative movement. Tickets are $15 for students. Friday, May 1
Join outdoor enthusiasts kayak, canoe and standup paddle board at Castaic Lake, a water reservoir located north of Santa Clarita. The $10 fee will include transportation, paddling equipment and help from experienced instructors. The day trip is a 30 minute drive from CSUN. Sign up ASAP because there’s a pre-trip meeting. The departure time will be decided during the meeting. Spend your Friday relaxing by the water, working on your summer tan and kayaking through Castaic Lake.
