After scoring a 323 to end the first round in eighth place, the California State University, Northridge women’s golf team scored a 329 in the final round, dropping them to ninth at the Firestone Grill/Cal Poly Invitational, held at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande Nov. 6-7.
The Matadors finished the tournament with a combined score of 652.
In the first round, sophomore Krystina Gillenwater finished with the best score for the Matadors. She posted a 79 but did not finish out the rest of the competition.
Senior Jasmine Koehler led the Matadors with a final score of 162, placing her in a tie for 31st place. She scored a 83 in the first round but improved in the second round with a score of 79.
Senior Nikki Imaromna and sophomore Katrina Sutton both scored 164 to put them in a tie for 38th place. Imaromna scored 82s in both rounds. Sutton finished the first round with an 81, but fell to an 83 in the final round.
Junior Lucy Davies finished two strokes behind Sutton and Imaromna with a 166. Davies followed her 81 stroke performance in the first round with an 85 stroke performance in the final round.
Big West Conference UC Riverside’s Jennifer Bermingham finished in first place overall with a score of 145. Bermingham scored an even par at 72 in the first round and followed with a 73 in the final round.
Future, Big West Conference, opponent, UC Davis, placed three golfers in the top 10 finishers. Their top performer, Sydney Roughton, scored 75 in both rounds to put her five strokes behind Bermingham at 150 for second place.
Cal Poly, another Big West opponent, had Stephanie Yocum finish in third place with a 151.
In team competition, UC Davis took the top spot finishing with a combined score of 612. Sacramento State scored a 621 for second place and UC Riverside finished in third with a 625.
