The Cal State Northridge men’s cross country team finished in 23rd place with a total score of 653 at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Meet in Blue Lake Park in Fair View, Ore. on Nov. 11.
Senior Manuel Ruiz finished in the top spot for the Matadors and 71st place overall. Ruiz managed to finish the men’s 10k in a time of 32:17, earning a score of 70 toward CSUN’s final score. Junior Diego Fernandez finished second for CSUN and 130th overall with a 34:16 time for a score of 129.
Senior Jacinto Garcia finished in a time of 34:48 for the 145th spot in the competition. Garcia earned a score of 143 toward the Matadors’ final score. Junior Jonathan Tan finished in 154th place with a time of 35:17 earning a score of152 to the total. Junior Michael Stotland finished in the 161st spot with a time of 37:35 earning a score of 159.
Stanford’s Araia Neftalem finished first place overall with a 30:05 but his finish was not enough to give Stanford the top spot in team competition. Oregon finished in the top spot in team competition with a combined time of 2:32:47.40. Five out of their seven runners finished within the top 20 spots. Arizona finished in second with a combined time of 2:33:29.16. From the Big West Conference, UC Santa Barbara finished seventh overall with a combined time of 2:36:18.80.
The Matadors finished with a combined time of 2:54:15.70 and an average of 34:51.14 per runner.
Loyola Marymount University (2:49:14.07) finished ahead of the Matadors in 22nd place.
In the women’s competition, senior Julie Hancock was the only competitor for CSUN. In the 6k, Hancock finished in 111th place with a time of 23:43.14. The Matadors did not compete in the team competition.
