Veterans Remembered

A celebration was held for all American veterans of wars on Saturday, Nov. 11. All were welcomed at the “Pow Wow” and some of the tribes that were represented were Chumash, Tatvian, Dineh, Apache and Chipewa. The event was sponsored by the American Indian Studies Program. The black flag with the face of a man on it represented those veterans who are missing in action. The purple hearts were for those veterans who were wounded in action. The flag that is neatly folded at the bottom of the page, was for those soldiers who died in service for the United States. Native American Indian soldiers often took objects with that represented their family and tribe as a visual tool in not forgetting their home and tribe. One of the AIS goals is to increase the knowledge and diversity of the American Indians.
