Many of the methods used in cancer research are synthetic, but not in the laboratory of chemistry professor Tom Minehan. Research in organic synthesis is rare in the western United States, but it is happening right here at CSUN. Minehan’s laboratory, located in Eucalyptus Hall, is developing chemical methods for medical research that does not harm the environment. This is the goal of the experiments performed in this laboratory. Providing a new way: organic and more versatile, to synthesize a molecule that leads to the cure of cancer is the thesis that graduate chemistry student Samuel Rodriguez is currently working on.
