Fall 2026 positions
NEWS EDITOR
The News Editor will demonstrate good news judgment and a strong sense of immediacy by publishing thorough coverage of daily news and breaking news. This role is for the Fall 2026 semester.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Assistant News Editor(s) and ensure they are producing content through continual communication throughout the week, as well as communication with other desk editors to guarantee equal and fair coverage of the college and its community.
- Serve as the second round of editing for all stories (after Asst. Editor).
- Write a minimum of 3 articles during the semester.
- Enforce 24 hour deadline for writers
- Attend mandatory meetings that happen twice a week
- Communicate with 397 students
- The majority of weekly working hours must take place in the Sundial Newsroom in Manzanita 140.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in CSUN for Fall 2026 semester
- Time-management skills and ability to work under deadline.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Able to work independently and in group settings
- Be able to handle fast-pace assignments
- Be able to produce story ideas every week
- Communicate with copy editors and other editors
- Must have had work/a story published before
- Must have basic knowledge of AP Style writing
Hours and Pay
$16.90; 10 hours per week

ASSISTANT NEWS EDITOR
The Assistant News Editor will work closely with the News Editor on content editing as well as provide the weekly or daily needs of the news section. This includes writing stories and/or furniture for the print edition and website. This role is for the Fall 2026 semester.
Responsibilities
- Assist the News Editor in ensuring the reporters are covering their beats, producing content and meeting deadlines.
- Perform first read on submitted News stories.
- Assist the News Editor with coverage of news and/or breaking news.
- Assists in developing creative ideas for our multimedia platforms.
- Works alongside reporters and assists them with their beats.
- Write a minimum of 6 articles during the semester
- Enforce 24 hour deadline for writers
- Attend mandatory meetings that happen twice a week
- Communicate with 397 students
- The majority of weekly working hours must take place in the Sundial Newsroom in Manzanita 140.

COPY EDITOR
Under the direction of the Chief Copy Editor, Copy Editors edit all Sundial content across all publishing platforms. Copy Editors will follow the structure and writing style of the Chief Copy Editor and the publication. This role is for the Fall 2026 semester.
Responsibilities
- Copy edit all content for publication in AP style format.
- Ensure copy editing is completed in a timely manner.
- Attend mandatory meetings that happen twice a week
- The majority of weekly working hours must take place in the Sundial Newsroom in Manzanita 140.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in CSUN for Fall 2026 semester
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills
- Able to work independently and in group settings
- Be able to handle fast-pace assignments
- Be able to produce story ideas every week
- Must be consistently communicating with Copy Chief
- Communicate with other editors
- Be able to respond to reporters consistently and effectively to meet deadlines
- Be available to edit and review stories when needed
- Must have basic knowledge of AP Style writing

OPINION EDITOR
The Opinion Editor will publish content that features unique perspectives and strong, thought-provoking content from voices in the CSUN community. This role is for the Fall 2026 semester.
Responsibilities
- Writes objectively, engages the campus community, and has a strong ethical background.
- Brings in guest columnists and contributing opinion writers and when possible, maintains these connections.
- Serve as the first round of editing for all submitted OpEd stories.
- Works with Photo Editor and/or illustrator(s) in providing a visual element for the opinion stories.
- Write a minimum of 3 articles during the semester.
- Attend mandatory meetings that happen twice a week
- Communicate with 397 students
- The majority of weekly working hours must take place in the Sundial Newsroom in Manzanita 140.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in CSUN for Fall 2026 semester

GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Under general supervision, the graphic designer will create compelling visual graphics for our editorial and business departments
DUTIES
- Create weekly editorial graphics for the Sundial’s social media platforms
- Design internal marketing materials, advertisements
- Produce other creative content as directed
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Must be enrolled as a CSUN Student in Fall 2026
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc) or equivalent software
- Possess time management and problem-solving skills
- Can work independently and in a group environment
- Must be able to verbally communicate effectively
- Prior newspaper or yearbook background a plus, but not required.

$16.90 per hour, 5-8 hours per week
