Alonso Tacanga August 20, 2008

So I'll be going to interview Mr. Franklin at his new home, the Home Depot Center, today Wednesday the 20th. Franklin was selected 4th overall in the MLS Superdraft despite having missed great part of...

The Matador Chess Club placed second in the U-1800 section during the 25th Annual Amateur Team West tournament Feb. 15-16. The Northridge representatives went up against some of the better chess players in the world. Jeffrey Cohen, CSUN's highest-ranked player, is considered "expert" according to the United States Chess Federation's national ranking system.

Fullerton blew out the Matadors (20-10 overall) in the first half and Northridge was never able to recover as the Titans (23-8) easily handled them and won 83-68 in the Big West Conference tournament semifinals at the Anaheim Convention Center on March 14, ending the Matadors' season and any hope they had of reaching the NCAA tournament.

Northridge head coach Bobby Braswell is by no means any sort of choreographer, but a lot of his players are feeling great urges for dancing this time of the year. Seniors honored at final home game

Before it was over and even before it began, four Matadors felt like no other person could feel that night. They were on their home floor, playing the last college regular-season game of their lives and putting on a more-than-convincing display for the crowd.

Coaching staff plays special role in men’s team success

Northridge guard Josh Jenkins saw himself as the rebel teenager in the men's basketball team family. He saw head coach Bobby Braswell as the fatherly figure he disagreed with occasionally. Luckily, Braswell had three assistant coaches to help him take care of family business, allowing him to keep Jenkins and his locker room brothers from running away from home.

Matadors can’t deliver knockout blow to UCSB

Deon Tresvant alone couldn't save the Matadors. And Santa Barbara didn't cooperate one bit in the rescue mission. Alex Harris and the Gauchos shrugged off a 25-point effort from the Northridge star reserve, held off a small rally and led all the way enroute to a surprisingly-comfortable 77-66 victory over the Matadors Thursday night at the Matadome.

Final two home games could clinch title for Matadors

Alonso Tacanga March 6, 2008
Jonathan Heard, Northridge's senior team captain, couldn't help but smile when asked about the Matadors' next two matches, home dates against Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. The 6-foot-6 swingman hopes to make his last two home games of his college career special enough to give him a few more weeks of playing time and some more reasons to show off his teeth.

Matadors defeated by Anteaters 82-66

Alonso Tacanga March 4, 2008
A four-point play in a basketball game is an oddity, but it happened twice on Saturday night. Unfortunately for the Matadors, one of those oddities helped greatly in preventing something that nowadays, more than odd, is nearly impossible: an Irvine home loss.
