The fourth-ranked CSUN men's volleyball team defeated sixth-ranked UCLA 30-28, 29-31, 35-33, 30-28 Friday night at the Matadome. Head coach Jeff Campbell said the win against UCLA was a good one and both teams looked steady throughout the match. "Both games two and three were close, they could have gone either way," Campbell said.

Matadors sweep No. 7 Anteaters

The fourth-ranked Matadors returned home Wednesday night and swept seventh-ranked UC Irvine 30-27, 30-24, 30-26 at the Matadome. Head coach Jeff Campbell said he was happy about beating the defending national champions, a team that CSUN hasn't beaten in several years.

CSUN prepares for MPSF Indoor Track Championships

Junior Morgan Bogard posted an NCAA Provision mark in the weight throw last Saturday at the 2008 Husky Classic in Seattle. Bogard's throw of 62-3 (18.97) was good for second place in the competition at the Dempsey Indoor facility. The Husky Classic was the final meet for the CSUN track and field teams before heading back to Seattle for the MPSF Indoor Championships on Feb.

The 16th-ranked CSUN women's water polo team hosted top-ranked UCLA on Saturday and gave the Bruins a tough game, despite losing 10-5. "We played really well today," said head coach Molly Barnes. "Our team defense was pretty legit. We had some good stops, good field stops.

The CSUN women's tennis team started the season with two wins, beating CS Fullerton 6-1 in its season-opener and sweeping the UC San Diego Tritons 7-0 in its home opener. "We did what we were supposed to do in these two matches," said head coach Gary Victor.

The CSUN women's water polo team had a rough weekend at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational, losing three of four games in the tournament, which featured 16 teams, 11 of which were ranked in the top 20. "Our offense sputtered throughout the weekend," said head coach Molly Barnes.

The women's water polo team started off the season Sunday with two victories at the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament, knocking off the host Runners 13-7 and Fresno Pacific 18-2. Ranked 18th in preseason polls, the Matadors had 15 different players score in the two-game tournament.

Double-doubles by senior Katie Holloway and freshman Analee Viena-Lota were not enough to beat Cal State Fullerton on Saturday and the Matadors lost 59-55 at Titan Gym. Holloway lead the CSUN offense with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth career double-double.

Cole’s jump is best in nation

Freshman Reindell Cole made his collegiate track and field debut for CSUN Saturday by winning the long jump with a leap of 26-1.75 (7.97 meters). Cole's distance is an automatic NCAA qualifying mark and is the best in the nation this year, as well as the fifth-best in the world so far this year.

Matadors’ struggles continue in Irvine

The CSUN women's basketball team's struggles continued at the Bren Center Thursday night where the Matadors lost to the UC Irvine Anteaters 70-55. Junior Crystal Hahs scored a team-high 15 points and had four blocks, bringing her total blocks for the season to 43, which ties her for second all-time in single-season blocks.

Still searching for a win after loss to Long Beach

The CSUN women's basketball team is still searching for its first win this season after losing to Long Beach State 71-56 at the Walter Pyramid Saturday night. Senior center Katie Holloway scored a game-high 22 points while pulling down eight rebounds. Holloway also made a career-high eight free throws.
