Campaign seeks to lower prices for texts

Jeremy Foster November 28, 2006
The debate over textbook prices was rekindled last year when the Government Accountability Office released a study indicating that textbook prices have increased an average of 6 percent each year - double the rate of inflation - since 1987. Student interest groups were quick to thrust the study like a dagger at an increasingly defensive publishing industry, which denies prices have been inflated to maximize profits and claims the 2005 report was tailored against it.

Proposition analysis of the Nov. 7 political elections

Jeremy Foster November 13, 2006
Anyone remotely political felt emotionally invested in the Nov. 7 elections. As the results came in through the afternoon and into the night, I found myself elated at times but disconcerted at others. On the national level, I welcomed the inroads the Democrats made in Congress (especially in the House).

Jeremy Foster November 8, 2006
Northridge Academy High School opened on Sept. 9, 2004 as a partnership between CSUN and the Los Angeles Unified School District with a curriculum that was designed by the CSUN NAHS Planning Committee in an effort to spearhead a new model of secondary education.

Online courses growing more popular at CSUN

Jeremy Foster October 31, 2006
Close to 300 fully online or partially online courses were added to the CSUN curriculum in the past year, according to the Office of Online Instruction at CSUN. "Online courses are contagious," said Professor Randal Cummings, director of the Online Instruction program.

Students save on transportation through A.S. Ticket Office

Jeremy Foster October 24, 2006
For various reasons, including a lack of personal transportation or a desire to save money on car maintenance and gas, many students use public transportation to get to and from CSUN. For a little over a year, CSUN student Donna, who asked to remain anonymous, has been spending 45 minutes daily on the Commuter Express and the Metro bus to get to CSUN from Westwood because she doesn't have a car.

String of robberies under investigation

Jeremy Foster October 17, 2006
It was just after closing at Roscoe's Family Restaurant in West Hills on May 20. Frank Sameo was gazing at his wife while she watered the plants at the front of his restaurant before he caught the eyes of a man behind the glass peering at him from around the corner.

Play the blame game, once again

Jeremy Foster October 2, 2006
On Sept. 22, Bill Clinton came on Fox News for the first time to talk with Chris Wallace about his global initiative project on poverty, disease and climate change. The interview began lightly with a discussion about how opportunities differed for Clinton between being President and a former President, but it quickly heated up after Wallace asked Clinton why he didn't "do more to put bin Laden and Al Qaeda out of business" while he was president.

Overdue tickets? Vehicles ‘booted’

Jeremy Foster September 28, 2006
Once upon a time, if your vehicle was cited for five parking violations, it was towed. But since then, car boots have been used by campus parking enforcement as a way of forcing drivers with multiple parking citations to pay up. "Boots are actually a way to assist people who have let their citations go because before (the boots) were used the only option we had was to tow the car away," said Sgt.

Voter apathy, Gov. Schwarzenegger and healthcare

Jeremy Foster September 18, 2006
Pure democracy isn't always feasible. Imagine going to the ballot over a sewage and waste control ordinance. Presuming voter apathy was a non-issue; the sheer inefficiency and impracticality of having every citizen vote on every minutia of every act of government would turn this country into monolithic slug.

USU bathroom overhaul discussed

Jeremy Foster September 6, 2006
CSUN's Physical Plant Management is keeping a close eye on the University Student Union's water conservation efforts, but is reluctant to follow their lead. Beginning four years ago, bathrooms at the USU were renovated with conservation in mind. The flush-urinals used in the men's restrooms, which account for 13 of the USU's 30 restrooms, were replaced with Waterless No-Flush? urinals from C'L Supply Co.
