The CSUN women's cross country team finished in sixth place while the men finished 10th at the UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational Sept. 30. In the women's 5k run, Julie Hancock finished in the top spot for Northridge and 12th overall with a time of 18:13.

Rivalries a plus in athletics

Madden curse claims another NFL star

The NFL's reigning MVP Shaun Alexander went down with an injured foot in Week 3 of the regular season continuing a trend that many have been calling a "curse." For the last few years, players who have shown the ability to perform among the elite players in the league have been given the opportunity to appear on the cover of EA Sports Madden football video game, one of the more popular games around.

New athletic director moves in

In a plan to help boost the athletic department, new assistant coaches and a new athletic director have been hired and put into place in what could be the beginning of a new era for Matador athletics. Last fall, university president Jolene Koester announced the creation of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics.

Cross country finishes last in Malibu

Despite an invitational best performance by senior Manuel Ramirez, the CSUN men's cross-country team fell to the Pepperdine Waves, while the women's team finished fourth at the Pepperdine Invitational in Malibu on Sept. 23. Ramirez finished the 8k run in a time of 27:21 but the Waves managed to beat the Matadors 25 points to 30 points.

Matadors prepare for conference play

Hoping to ride off the momentum of the five-game road trip, in which the CSUN women's volleyball team won four out of five, the Matadors will look to continue their success at home today and Sept. 23.
