New CSUN science building gets go-ahead

The CSU Board of Trustees approved the construction of a new 90,000 square foot building for the College of Science and Mathematics, CSUN officials said. The construction of the building is scheduled to begin in January 2007 and will be added to expand the College of Science and Mathematics educational objectives, said Bill Fairchild, capital programs manager and project manager of the new building.

CFA plans bargaining strategy, share hopes

The California Faculty Association members discussed contract bargaining and the CSU 2006-07 budget at the University Club Feb. 22. James David Ballard, president of the CFA's CSUN Chapter, presented the teachers union's barganing points to a packed room of about 30 to 50 professors.

Come and fill up the Matadome for home game

I am here to call all of you out to the Matadome this Saturday at 3 p.m. to witness the Matadors play their long-time rivals, the Pacific Tigers. But I am also here to inform you that this game will be televised on Fox Sports West Net 2. That's right, the same channel that broadcasts the Clippers and the Dodgers.

Working in journalism, I am very concerned about the state of the media. When I hear people tell me they think the media is liberal or it has an agenda, it makes me worry that people are beginning not to trust the media, or that they already have. It also upsets me when I watch certain networks that have an agenda and do not admit it when they do.

Men’s basketball prepares for huge home game

The Cal State Northridge men's basketball team returned home for the first time since Feb. 4. Since then, the Matadors have played five road games, including yesterday's game at Pacific. During the road trip, CSUN went 2-2 with wins at UC Davis and UC Riverside.

The Cal State Northridge baseball team completed a comeback victory in the bottom of the ninth against the Washington Huskies in the final game of the series and avoided a four game sweep on Feb. 20 at Matador Field. The Huskies were 9-3 against the Matadors coming into the series.

M.E.Ch.A. gets more funds from A.S.

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A.) were allocated additional funds for its upcoming youth conference at the Associated Students meeting Feb. 21. M.E.Ch.A. was given an additional $800 after much debate on how much the club should be funded for its RAZA Youth Conference.

Rain officially washed away three out of four games the Cal State Northridge softball team would have played in last weekend's UCSB Commercial Capital Invitational. Rain washed away any chance for the Matadors to come back from their opening game of the tournament.

Boise State used a balanced scoring attack to beat the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team 82-71 Feb. 18 at Taco Bell Arena in this year's ESPN BracketBuster. The Broncos had six players score double figures, while the Matadors had four players who scored over 10.

Men’s volleyball comes up short against the champs

The Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team came back from a two game to none deficit against the defending national champion Pepperdine Waves, but were unable to pull off another comeback win on the road. The Waves held on to win 30-24, 30-26, 35-37, 26-30 and 15-13 in five sets.

Anaheim shouldn’t sue Angels

Recently, the city of Anaheim decided not to appeal a court's decision that allowed the Angels to keep their new name. Some of you may be aware that the Angels changed their name last season from Anaheim Angels to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I know that some of you who did not know this are wondering why a team would change their name to this.
