Ivan Yeo October 24, 2007
Teams that have faced the CSUN women's volleyball team this year are quickly finding out one thing - getting the ball to the Matadors' side of the court can be pretty tough. The Matadors posted 23.5 blocks and 43 blocks assists against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at the Matadome Saturday night, as the Matadors defeated the Gauchos in a thrilling five-game match.

I am very disturbed by the Oct. 18 Daily Sundial front page. I am not as distressed by what is exposed as by what has been blatantly omitted. The main article on the upper part of the page, "U.S. Army event arrives on campus to recruit students," is a decontextualized account of what the author sees as an exciting opportunity for some students to climb a 30-foot climbing wall, use helicopter and rifle shooting simulators, and peek into Hummers.

Tiffany Kelly October 24, 2007
Of the 250,000 Sudanese refugees living in Chad and Central African Republic, 10,000 die each month. An estimated 450,000 have died since the start of the four-year-old conflict in Darfur, Sudan, according to Stop Genocide Now. Camp Darfur, which came to CSUN Monday for a two-day stay, is a traveling interactive event for students, and has six tents with history and facts about the genocide.

Your recent article ("Despite U.N. Embargo, arms readily to Myanmar military junta") on foreign supplies and suppliers of weapons in Myanmar failed to mention the increasingly prominent role of the "non-state actor" in arms trafficking. The United Nations has used the term "non-state actor" to describe organized crime elements, illicit narcotics and arms traffickers, and individuals who work outside the lines of the formal international community.

Ashley Mcskimming October 23, 2007
Traditional tribal lessons invoke a sense of pride in Native American youth, and they also allow young people from all backgrounds to develop self-esteem and find a purpose in life. These were the words of Alan Salazar at the opening of the "Sing Me Your Story, Dance Me Home: Art and Poetry from Native California" exhibition, a collection of California Native art and poetry on display at the Main Gallery in the art department until Nov.

The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team split their weekend games, beating UC Riverside on Friday 2-0, then losing to Cal State Fullerton on Sunday 3-0. Friday's victory was the Matadors' first conference win of the season and also snapped their five-game losing streak.

Student groups request funding from A.S.

Chrystal King October 23, 2007
Representatives from student groups sat in the lobby of the Associated Students Headquarters on Monday, waiting to be called in front of the Finance Committee to request funding for their organizations. CSUN's chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars anticipated a cost of $1,800 for the Hunger Banquet that members are planning to have on Nov.

USU offers course on improving sleeping habits

Alyssa Lofgren October 23, 2007
Students learned about the importance of a good night's sleep and how to improve sleeping habits at a University Student Union Life Skills and Learning course last Tuesday. Sleep is one of the most important activities a human body needs to thrive. A human body needs water, calories and sleep to survive, and most students forgo sleep as a way to extend their productivity or have more personal time.

Bush’s veto could restrict reporters

Zabie Mansoory October 23, 2007
On Tuesday the House passed the Free Flow of Information Act of 2007 also know as reporters' shield act, which backs the right of reporters to protect the confidentiality of sources in most federal court cases, saying that the right was crucial to a free and effective press.

Matadors can’t contain Mustangs

Ivan Yeo October 23, 2007
The CSUN women's volleyball team certainly showed it was capable of hanging with the 24th-ranked Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs. However, in the end, the Mustangs proved to be on a higher level, as Cal Poly bounced back from a game-one defeat to win the next three games and with it, the match at the Matadome Friday night.

Walking 10k toward awareness for AIDS

Meredith Sweet October 23, 2007
I awoke on the day of the AIDS Walk at 5:30 a.m., what I refer to as "an ungodly hour." I walked outside of my house a few minutes after 6:00 a.m., and it was still dark enough to see the stars, but by the time I reached the University Student Union at about 6:40 a.
