September 28 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Roberto Cani, violin

Acclaimed as an “artiste,” violinist Roberto Cani has captivated audiences worldwide since his solo debut at Gaveau Hall in Paris. Beginning his studies at age seven, Mr. Cani has won numerous competitions, including the Paganini International Competition, Courcillon International Competition, and Jeunesses Musicales International Competition, along with the Minetti Prize and honors at the Tchaikovsky Competition.

As a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster, Mr. Cani has performed across the United States, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Russia, Croatia, Belgium, Poland, Serbia, France, Taiwan, Japan, and South Africa. His performances have been televised on PBS, RAI, RB, NHK, ZDF, and in Taiwan, and featured on Los Angeles radio stations KMZT and KKGO. Notable performances include Paganini and Szymanowski concerti in Italy and a premiere by Polish composer Gorecki.

Since 2011, Mr. Cani has served as Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, collaborating with Placido Domingo, James Conlon, and Gustavo Dudamel. He has toured with conductor Justus Frantz and performed with Lynn Harrell, Jeffrey Swann, and Jason Vieaux. Currently, he is part of a piano trio with Robert DeMaine and Inna Faliks and actively participates in west coast chamber music series and international festivals.

Mr. Cani has given master classes at USC, UCLA, and other universities, and has taught at music festivals in Positano, Hvar, Astoria, Prague, Cremona, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. A graduate of the Milan Conservatory, the Gnessin Institute in Moscow, and USC, he studied with Viktor Tretiakov and Abrahm Shtern. Mr. Cani plays on a 1735 Pietro Guarneri violin.

Rodolfo Leone, piano

Italian pianist Rodolfo Leone, first-prize winner of the 2017 International Beethoven Piano Competition Vienna, has been hailed as “a true sound philosopher” (Oberösterreichische Nachrichten). His debut album, released on Gramola in 2018, features Beethoven’s “Hammerklavier” and “Waldstein” Sonatas. Critics praise his playing for its “impeccable style” and “absolute technical control” (Il Nuovo Amico).

In the 2018–19 season, Rodolfo debuted with the San Diego Symphony and Pasadena Symphony, performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and gave recitals in Austria, Los Angeles, and Naples, Florida. As a 2018–19 Performance Today Young Artist in Residence, his live recordings were broadcast nationwide.

Born in Turin, Italy, Rodolfo made his orchestral debut in 2013 with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. He has since performed with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Colburn Orchestra, and at venues like Festival Napa Valley and the Soka Performing Arts Center. He has also collaborated in chamber music with Lynn Harrell, Fabio Bidini, and the Viano String Quartet.

Rodolfo’s extensive performances span Europe, North America, and China, including debuts at the Musikverein in Vienna, Steinway Hall in London, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. He has won top prizes at the 2014 Toronto International Piano Competition and the 2013 Busoni International Piano Competition. Rodolfo is based in Los Angeles, where he studied at the Colburn Conservatory of Music.
