Hope and Dignity: The Farmworker Movement Exhibition
August 15, 2024 - January 26, 2025
Hope and Dignity: The Farmworker Movement is an exhibition that captures hundreds of faces of the farmworker movement and the duality of their struggle—hope for a better economic future for the workers and their families through creating a strong union and dignity in their quest to be recognized as human beings
and full citizens. The photos of this exhibition feature the visual history of the early years of the farmworker movement as captured by photographers Emmon Clarke and John Kouns. In addition, the exhibition also juxtaposes Andy Zermeño’s
drawings that inspired El Teatro Campesino’s characters with Clarke’s and Kouns’s photographs of El Teatro’s early actos, or skits.
Curators: Dr. Kent Kirkton, Marta Valier, and Joseph Silva
