Iranian officials announce charges against imprisoned CSUN grad student

Iranian authorities announced charges will be filed against 28-year-old CSUN grad student Esha Momeni, who was arrested Oct. 15 while working on a documentary on the women’s rights movement for her thesis project.

Alireza Jamshidi, spokesperson for the Iranian Judiciary, said Momeni is being charged with ‘acting against national security.’

Momeni was arrested by undercover police for allegedly passing a car illegally on’ Moddaress highway in Iran. ‘ She was subsequently escorted home by authorities, where her footage and computer was confiscated.

The student had been interviewing women involved in the One Million Signatures campaign, an organization that is working to amend Iran’s constitution to recognize men and women as equal.
