Coming off a big win, the Matadors will need to keep up their high energy to beat the third-place team in the Big West Conference.

After blowout win against Fullerton on Saturday, CSUN Head Coach Staci Schulz said the Matadors are finally playing to their capabilities.

Part of the reason for that was the performance by the team’s seniors: Ashley Blake, Whitney Ligon, Tanicia Tademy and Katrina Thompson.

Against Fullerton, the seniors scored 13, 19, six and 10 points respectively.

CSUN freshman guard Bridgette Conejo, said those players are the leaders and that they get the team going.

‘When the seniors are on, we’re on,’ said Conejo about her team leaders. ‘Once we see them get started, we are ready to go and that’s what happened against Fullerton.’

The team was able to get it going right away with Blake making a 3-pointer to start the game.

Once Ligon came into the game, the Matadors began to build a 19-point lead going into half-time.

In the last game against Cal Poly, the Matadors had a few leads, but they ended up letting the Mustangs back into the game.

We had two big leads in the game,’ Assistant Coach Abby Vaughan said. ‘In the first half, we were up by 11, and in the second, we had a nine-point lead. But we fell apart.’

The Matadors kept their big leads in the game against Fullerton, but part of it had to do with their shooting.

‘When you shoot 52 percent from the field that is a good thing for any offense,’ Vaughan said. ‘We believe that if, defensively, we hold teams to under 65 points, we have a good chance at winning.’
