UCSB M.I.A. at anthem

UC Santa Barbara was not on the floor for the pregame national anthem, drawing cries from Matadors fans who yelled “where are they?” A fan told these fans to shut up. One of them turned back and said “you shut up.” Tremaine Townsend turned and cracked a smile at the exchange. Five minutes till tip-off. And here are the Gauchos. Finally.

Twenty minutes to tip-ff

Matadors are warming up on the Anaheim Convention Center’s floor. The starters are Mark Hill, Rob Haynes, Kenny Daniels, Willie Galick and Tremaine Townsend. I’m seated right in front of a big group of Matadors fans so I’m sure they’ll have some colorful comments I can share with you. James Nunnally of UCSB has averaged 17 points and 0.25 game-winners at the buzzer over the last four games (that’s one out of four).

It’s Matadors vs. UC Santa Barbara, people

The Gauchos beat Cal State Fullerton, 73-64, on Thursday in the second round of the Big West Tournament and advanced to the semifinals. Run ends in second round

The Mustangs of Cal Poly were too big, too strong and too quick for the Matadors women’s basketball team on Thursday, when their season ended by way of a 74-65 loss in the second round of the Big West Tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center.
