My mistake. With the win, CSUN’s clinched at least a share of the Big West Conference championship. The outright championship will come with a win at Pacific on Saturday.
Long Beach State defeated Cal Poly 63-60, meaning CSUN, which has all but won this game (up 92-72 with a minute to go) will have to win at Pacific on Saturday to win the Big West championship. If they lose that game, they can still win the title if the 49ers lose at UCSB. Final score: CSUN 99 – UC Davis 72 Kenny Daniels scored 24 points and Rodrigue Mels added 18 for CSUN. Long Beach State and Cal Poly are tied at 52-52 with a few minutes to go in San Luis Obispo. If CSUN wins (as it seems it will since it’s up 82-60 with 6:36 to go) and the 49ers lose, the Matadors will be crowned Big West Conference champions tonight.
The Matadors are ahead 76-59 with eight minutes to go and UC Davis seems to be losing hope. Even their fans have gotten quiet. Some coaches here are beginning to ask for the Long Beach State-Cal Poly game score. Braswell’s warning though, “It’s not over.” I beg to differ.
