Relax CSUN, everyone does it

In an effort to take our print product to the next level this semester, the editorial staff at the Daily Sundial has agreed to start a weekly column dedicated to everything and anything related to sex. Why you may ask? Because sex is one of those subjects you can’t avoid even if you tried. You see it in movies, hear it in songs, people make side jokes using “that’s what she said” towards comments that can be interpreted as sexual…. Read more

Music lover wants to bring entertainment to the Valley

A lot of good things have come out of the Valley. The infamous “Valley Girl” stereotype, replete with accent and tote-sized lap dog. Plenty of high schools in which the big networks can film their teen-angst dramas, starring actors who haven’t seen a classroom in almost a decade. And of course, the center of the world in the adult film industry. But a happening music scene? Not so much. Over the past couple of decades Van Nuys — once considered… Read more

Students dedicate themselves to learning the art of Jishin Taiko in and out of the classroom

Many interesting sounds can be heard throughout the CSUN campus on any given day. There is the muffled chatter between groups of people sitting outside the Arbor Grill; squirrels obnoxiously wrestling for a scrap of food by the Matador Bookstore; or the chiming of the campus clock each hour. Rarely, however, does a sound stand up to the power, penetrating tone and intense volume of Taiko. The thunderous yet rhythmic drumming of CSUN’s Jishin Taiko Ensemble can be heard from… Read more

Fall semester tuition increase a burden for students

Earlier this summer, California State University students received the news that tuition for this fall semester has increased roughly 30 percent due to millions of dollars in state of California budget shortages. Nearly $600 million was cut from state funding for the CSU system in the midst of a record crisis in California’s history, prompting the CSU Board of Trustees to approve additional increases in university fees that apply to all students. In addition to the 10 percent increase that… Read more

Electronic textbooks viable alternative to pricey hard copies?

Business law students will be able to choose between e-books and traditional hardcopy textbooks this semester after the business law department reached an agreement with publishers. “The department is aware of the burden it is for students to buy textbooks and so we are facing this head-on by implementing electronic textbooks,” said Michael Chaplin, an assistant professor who will be teaching three sections of Business Law II this semester. The e-books will be available for all core classes including Business… Read more

CSUN softball coach Barbara Jordan goes a perfect 21-0 with Team USA

This past summer Cal State Northridge softball head coach Barbara Jordan joined Team USA as an assistant coach during three tournament championships. The team had a perfect record of 21-0, and Jordan had the pleasure of coaching some of the best softball players in the world, including Jennie Finch, Natasha Watley and Lauren Lappin. “You really don’t need to tell them a whole lot,” Jordan said. “They’re like any other player. They need encouragement, they need a pat on the… Read more

Former A.S. director, Misak Sevlian, confronts president at senate meeting

The Associated Students (A.S.) president refused yesterday to respond to a former assistant director’s inquiry at the A.S. senate meeting to the reason why he was terminated from his post. Misak Sevlian, former assistant environmental affairs director, was removed from his post Thursday, without much reason, he said, so he went to the open forum portion of the meeting looking for an answer. “I want to know why I was removed from the post for environment affairs (assistant) director,” Sevlian… Read more
