CONTROL drops the beat on Los Angeles the electro

The electronic music scene is reaching critical mass. Now at its apex of mainstream saturation it seems not a day goes by where top 40 divas and superstars cross genres and reinvent themselves “electronic” almost the same way Dylan went “electric”. Britney Spears sounds like she’s being produced by Tiesto and your 14-year-old sibling probably goes to raves. To say that electro is being embraced with open arms is an understatement. Although computers and synthesizers may simply be the natural… Read more

CSUN demographic changes predict reversal of ethnic majority

Mariana Jalnekrian, an 18-year-old Armenian-American, set aside a book she was reading to take a quick glance around campus. From her table outside the Matador Bookstore Complex, Jalnekrian, a first-year English Literature major, contemplated the many ethnic groups at CSUN, trying to figure out which was in the majority. “Can I give two answers?” she replied after a long pause, “Hispanic and white.” Along with several other students, Jalnekrian correctly deduced that both whites and Hispanic Americans are in a… Read more

This amendment was a compromise reached by the Personnel Board and the A.S. staff to stave off potential layoffs. “So far, they have all spoke and rather do this than do what our other colleagues would want us to do,” General Manager David Crandall said. “Should we do this or shut… Read more

The “Harry Potter” book series was discussed as more than just a world of witches and witchcraft Monday night in a lecture given by Sabina Magliocco, chair and professor of anthropology. The idea of the series ultimately being a life lesson for young adults was one of the main topics of the discussion. “All young people need to find within ourselves what we can do best in order to have a fulfilling life, that’s what ‘Harry Potter’ is about,” Magliocco… Read more

New York finished the regular season with the best record in baseball, winning 103 games. They ran through the Minnesota Twins in the division series and worked their way past the Los Angeles Angels… Read more

No. 4 UCSB looks to get even with Matadors

Four should be the magic number on the minds of the Cal State Northridge men’s soccer squad going into tonight’s match at No. 4 UC Santa Barbara. The Matadors’ goal all season has been to finish among the top four in the Big West Conference to qualify for the four-team playoff. They have just four conference games remaining, two of which are winnable matches at home – the other two are against, arguably, the cream of the Big West crop…. Read more
