Eco-sneakers, affordable green fashion

Like many other people, I love shoes. A couple weeks ago I discovered Payless had started a green line of shoes that cost less than $30. I was not surprised because it seems that everyone has jumped on the bandwagon of going green. Their Zoe and Zac line hit stores in April with a flirty spring collection that included sneakers, sandals and flats. The shoes are made from Eco-friendly materials including organic cotton, linen, hemp and recycled rubber. With the… Read more

CSUN women’s volleyball needs a miracle against UC Irvine

The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team was handed their fourth loss in the last five matches in a five-set heartbreaker by the Roadrunners of Cal State Bakersfield last Wednesday. “I think the team is extremely disappointed in the results,” CSUN head coach Jeff Stork said. “They tried really hard and (CSUB) did things and capitalized on it well, but that doesn’t diminish our disappointment. We just need to stick to our guns.” Northridge will get the chance to whip… Read more

CSUN women’s soccer comes up short against UCSB

The Cal State Northridge women’s soccer team (5-7, 1-1 Big West Conference) was defeated by UC Santa Barbara 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Matador Field. It was a rollercoaster game with a wide range of emotions mixed in. The Matadors were at a slight disadvantage to start the game. Neither of their two starting goalies could dress for the game with injuries suffered Friday, so freshman goalkeeper Haley Hawes got the start in net. Just 34 seconds into the game, UCSB… Read more

The New York Yankees will be resting and glued to the television during today’s one-game playoff for the American League Central crown between the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins. Letters to the editor: Oct. 6, 2009

Where does one begin? How many of these anti-Israel rants does the Sundial intend to print year after year after year,  while your ‘Fact-Checker’ rots away like the crypt-master in Manzanita Hall.  Will anyone awaken the ‘Fact-Checker’ from his nightmarish slumber?  Why must your accidental & abashed readers always do it for you? Glatzer wants Israel to cease to be a Jewish State, although the Balfour Declaration and the League of Nations Mandate insisted that it be such.  Glatzer doesn’t… Read more

Four CSUN students received scholarships to study abroad in China

Despite furloughs, budget cuts and the difficult economic times, not all aspects of education are suffering as four CSUN students have received scholarships from the China Scholarships Council to study abroad at U. S. sister universities in China. Danielle Cabello, Don Duprez, Susan Tang and Lisa Farber have either started studying in China or are on their way. These scholarships are given by the Chinese government to allow U.S. students an opportunity to learn about and experience China from a… Read more

CSUN alumnus launches comedy calendar, titled “The Beast Calendar”

He’s not the typical guy in a Calvin Klein ad, nor would it be likely to see him in the layout of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue. He’s the face, chest and back hair of his own calendar. CSUN alumnus David MacNeal is the founder and model of the Beast Calendar – a man calendar that features a hairy MacNeal posing shirtless and sometimes in the buff. MacNeal, 23, had a launch party at Casey’s Tavern Sept. 30, for his… Read more

Letters to the editor: Oct. 6, 2009

Dear William Herbe, It is difficult to respond to Glatzer’s op-ed about Israel. This slice of hate speech given to us in our university newspaper is so full of half-truths and outright lies that it is impossible to respond to everything he invents. How can our paper print such nonsense about secret Israeli conspiracies for ethnic cleansing? If it is so secret, how does Glatzer know about it? From 1948 to present day, Israel has constantly tried to make peace… Read more

Fashion ideas for late summer and early fall

Most states have four seasons: spring, summer, fall, then winter.  But here in Southern California, and notably in the San Fernando Valley, we have just two seasons: hot and hotter.  All joking aside, in other parts of the country the daily weather is consistent. Generally, when it is cold in the morning it will likely be cold in the afternoon and into the evening.  But for us in the greater Los Angeles area, the day might start out with a… Read more
