Matador struggles continue

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team was defeated once again Friday night, but this time to Eastern Washington, 68-50. Bridgette Conejo, who scored 21 points, was the lone bright spot for the Matadors. Conejo had a career day at the charity stripe with 10 free throws made. Conejo was the only Matador to score in double figures. Katrina Thompson was the team’s second leading scorer with nine. If Northridge continues to lose games, they could start to lose confidence…. The movement to end the apathy

Story by  Lidya Muñoz and William Herbe The frustrated and detached minds of our students and faculty can reattach their concerns and gravitate toward CSUN’s newest activist saviors. Last week the Coalition for Students and Teachers (C.O.S.T.) held the C.O.S.T. Carnival event in front of the Oviatt Library. The information, entertainment and energy that poured out of the week-long event is exactly the kind of organization and leadership the campus needs to shake their heads free of the apathetic hypnosis…. A taste of Ethiopia in Los Angeles

Colorful buildings line the block on Fairfax Avenue. Several restaurants bunched together on this small strip of land radiate pungent, sweet and spicy scents of food cooking inside. Outside of one restaurant, a man was singing in Amharic – a language I’ve never heard before. Welcome to the Little Ethiopia district of Los Angeles. A fairly new enclave in Los Angeles, Little Ethiopia started growing in the 1990s as more shops, markets and restaurants opened to welcome new arrivals. One… Read more

Too many point guards

It’s not every day that a head coach has three talented point guards to run his offense and make his job easier. Matador head coach Bobby Braswell is one of the lucky ones to have three guards, but his job has not gotten easier–it has probably gotten harder. In six games the point-guard trio of Mark Hill, Vinnie McGhee and Dathan Lyles have only 23 assists between them, and all three are averaging less than two assists per game. In… Read more

Road trip to the Evergreen State

The Cal State Northridge women’s basketball team (1-4) is coming off two straight losses but will try to get their act together on the road. The team will head up to Washington state, where they will play against Eastern Washington on Friday, and Gonzaga on Sunday. However, the task will be a challenge because both of these teams have winning records. Head coach Staci Schulz regard the Matadors’ first opponent as an “inside team.” “Their guards will score in transition,… Read more

‘At what C.O.S.T. will you stay silent?’

With what began as frustrated students in a classroom, the Coalition of Students and Teachers (C.O.S.T.) has evolved into a movement where these same students and their professors present facts, but also give solutions to the budget cuts that students have been dealing with this semester. Students, professors and faculty members from C.O.S.T. stood on the Oviatt Lawn Wednesday morning to try to not only educate students about the budget crisis, and offer solutions to the problem in a festive… Read more
