CSUN Baseball: Surprising win over No. 18 USD

After giving up 30 runs in their first three games of the season, Cal State Northridge held the No. 18 San Diego Toreros to one run in its 7-1 upset victory at San Diego.

Justin DeMarco, who went 3-for-4, and Ridge Carpenter, who went 3-for-6 with 3 RBI’s, led the Matadors.

San Diego was able to get a run in the bottom of the first, CSUN then responded by scoring 4 runs on San Diego starting pitcher Casey Schmidt in the second inning, two of them coming an a Carpenter single.

After giving up back-to-back walks in the bottom of the third, CSUN head coach Steve Rousey removed starting pitcher Alex Muren, and replaced him with Justen Gorski, who pitched five shut out innings and got the victory for the Matadors.

The Matadors’ 2010 home opener is on Friday as the Matadors will host Pepperdine.
