Ballet Folklorico Aztlan de CSUN held their seventh annual Folklore de Mexico on May 1 at Birmingham Community Charter High School. The event celebrated 40 years of Mexican dance, culture and education at CSUN. The annual event included traditional dance of different regions accompanied by live music from Mexican recording artists Hermanos Herrera as well as the nine-piece mariachi band, Mariachi de Mi Tierra.

BFA de CSUN is comprised of 32 members (CSUN students, alumni and community members) who keep Mexican traditions alive through dance. They perform both on and off campus including elementary, middle and high school cultural events (and weddings, too!)

As an official CSUN organization, the group does more than perform. They hold fundraisers for their costumes, accessories and other items that are needed. They also attend workshops, bond through social events and are active in community service via programs such as Padres Contra El Cancer, “Adopt a Family,” holiday program

Previous dance experience is not required for membership to BFA. The group continually incorporates new dance numbers in their repertoire and each dance is taught step by step which culminates in a visually stunning end-of-year performance.
