Colts to prevail in AFC South

With the football season starting today, the AFC South has only one true contender for the Super Bowl, the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning will lead Indy to another division crown but it will not be an easy process with up-and-coming teams like Houston and Tennessee.

Jacksonville Jaguars – Let’s start off with a Jags team that finished last in 2009 and looks to repeat the same thing this year.

Quarterback David Garrard threw for only 15 touchdowns and 3,597 passing yards. Former UCLA Bruin Maurice Jones-Drew, just coming off an injury, is the only one making an impact on offense. The rest of the offense has not done much to contribute.

Houston Texans – Even with a healthy Matt Schaub, who led the league in passing yards, the Texans were not able to reach the playoffs last season. They have inched closer each year, but still can’t quite reach the postseason.

The Texans have a tough schedule to begin their year, playing the Colts in week one and the Cowboys in week three. Those games will be especially tough on the defense, with Brian Cushing’s suspension and Dunta Robinson’s departure. The Texans could be in store for a rough start to the season.

Tennessee Titans – The Titans offense needs to help Chris Johnson, who rushed for 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns. In a league where you need to have an elite quarterback to be successful, Vince Young will need to step up.

Young is an important factor for the Titans since he keeps on finding ways to win, even though he only had a total of 1,879 passing yards in 12 games last season. The team was 23rd in the league in passing yards. If Young continues to run the ball and move the chains, then the Titans can sustain winning like they did at the end of last season.

Indianapolis Colts – Four-time MVP Peyton Manning is ready to take the Colts to another Super Bowl. Coming off a record of 14-2 the Colts return the same key players.

The Colts are a shoe-in as long as Manning leads the offense. The Colts added some help for Manning with newcomer Brody Eldrindge. Also, Manning will get a healthy Anthony Gonzalez back. Manning can have anyone out on the field and find them for complete passes.
