Tempers flare as Matadors get first win of the season

With temperatures hovering in the triple digits, the Matador offense was scorching hot as they obtained their first victory of the season in a 4-0 win Sunday against Air Force at Matador Field. “We’re going to play a little bit better,” Matador head coach Terry Davila told the CSUN athletic department after the game. “We’re starting to become a unit and we’re starting to understand our roles. We’re getting confident.” After being outshot 8-3 by Air Force (2-5-0) in the… Read more

Hitler’s Jewish problem

A recent article in Britain’s Daily Telegraph has published the results of DNA tests of Adolf Hitler’s nearly 40 living relatives in Europe and America revealing that the virulently anti-Semitic Nazi leader was of Jewish ancestry. The article itself draws no conclusions from this result, except to generically suggest the possibility of a case of Jewish “self-loathing,” and to point out the parallel between another recently outed outspoken opponent of Israel, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, evidence of whose own Jewish ancestry recently surfaced…. HELPING: Michelle Obama With the launch of her new campaign, “Let’s Move” against childhood obesity, first lady Michelle Obama is taking actions in to her own hands and encouraging our youth to eat healthier and stay active. Students and campus workers battle the heat

Classes and work don’t go on hold just because CSUN is being blasted with furnace-like heat. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for the San Fernando Valley, with temperature highs ranging from 107 to 111. Some students have taken advantage of the misters at the bookstore dining area but right next door at the construction site of the Valley Performing Arts Center, workers don’t have that luxury. “Hell no, we don’t get special breaks,” said James… Read more

The top five: most erroneous political talking points

Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity comes to our nation’s capital on Oct. 30.  I’d like to take this opportunity to lay my political cards on the table. I am what you would call a radical moderate. I’m sure many people consider that to be an oxymoron and I think that’s sad. Now I’m normally not a big fan of protesters. My philosophy is, if you don’t like what the government is doing, try voting next time. But for too… Read more

Student finds inspiration through Charlie Chaplin

From an early age, Janelle Goforth knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up, an actress. That didn’t mean she couldn’t also be a Renaissance woman. Acting, writing, directing, photography, sewing, and volunteering are activities the 23-year-old CTVA senior performs on a regular basis. No wonder Charlie Chaplin hugely influenced her life and “captured her heart.” “Charlie Chaplin is my favorite person in the world,” Goforth said. “He was so talented and did everything in his films….
