Question of the Day: How has your experience abroad changed your perspective?

Study abroad programs and vacation companies often venerate the idea of travel because it will change your perpsective. Seeing people in different countries and situations and meeting groups with different cultures is supposed to open your mind and change the way you think. Have you had an experience that helped you change your mind? Was it a whole trip or just one interaction? How did it change you?

CSUN Jazz “A” Band recognized as one of the best college ensembles in the nation

Dressed in suits and with instruments in tune, 23 college students took center stage and prepared to play before the crowd in the USU Plaza del Sol Performance Hall on Oct. 6. African American art history celebrated at VPAC

Visitors were able to tour a post-war Los Angeles through an African-American perspective during a celebration of jazz and the opening reception of a photography exhibit Sunday in the VPAC. The Miles Davis Experience  featured a jazz production by the Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet.  The performance chronicled not only the work of Davis, but the historical context that surrounded the jazz music scene during that decade. Details revealed for new Student Recreation Center

Shannon Krajewski, associate director marketing and programs for the USU, discussed the FAQ that would go on its new Student Recreational Center material and revealed some information in doing so. The SRC website stated the $130 membership fee will be included as part of the USU fee, bringing the total fee to $250. Distinguishing between child abuse and artistic license

The Canada Border Services Agency (Canada Customs) arrested an American citizen in June after searching and finding lolita manga, Japanese comics illustrating children in erotic situations, on his laptop. In accordance with Canadian customs statutes, any sexual images of characters that appear to be underage can be treated as child pornography. Deaf and hard-of-hearing students find glitch in suspected gunman notifications

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students found a slight glitch in the system when it came to getting the emergency notification regarding the suspected gunman on campus Sept. 27. “The emergency notification system worked well except that I didn’t get the emergency text,” said senior Kailyn Aaron-Lozano, referring to the text message she was supposed to have received instead of the phone call other students received. Gender inequality still an issue for business women

Women in the business world may still be facing gender inequality thought to be long since eradicated, a 2010 study found. The survey found that women received an average of $4,600 less initially than their male colleagues. Women were also given fewer opportunities for promotion, and their salaries increased an average of 2 percent compared with men’s 21 percent in 2008.
