Baseball: Matadors drop another one to Fullerton

By Wahid Lodin

The Matadors sought to end their losing streak on Saturday at Cal State Fullerton, but came up short again in the final innings of the game with the final score being 8-6.

The team’s previous encounter with Fullerton Friday night was not a pleasant one as CSUN lost 7-2. This time around they had a better offensive game even though they were scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, where they scored four runs. Although their offense seemed to play well, they weren’t at their best on the defensive end and allowed eight runs and 14 hits.

As a team, the Matadors committed three errors as opposed to Fullerton’s one. Titan pitcher Dimitri DeLaFuente did not make it any easier for the Matadors as he threw three innings and allowed only one run in that span.

Fullerton extended its record to 17-9, continuing to be the dominant team among the two.

Although CSUN sophomore pitcher Alex Muren had two shutouts earlier in the season, he did not pitch all too well against Fullerton. Muren, who pitched seven innings, allowed the eight runs and 14 hits that team had throughout the whole game.

Sophomore catcher Marty Bowen led the Matadors by going 2-for-3 at bat.

The Matadors will finish their three-game series against the Titans Sunday at 1 p.m.
