CSUN logo loses its edge

In spring of 2006, campus officials initiated the removal of the sword from the CSUN athletics logo, which now includes a matador and a jagged letter “N” in red and black. The change was confirmed last April. The rumor behind the logo revision was that the sword might have symbolically portrayed violence.

The guy behind the speaker laughed when I ordered my lunch. “Very funny,” he said. “Now tell me what you really want.” After I told him again that I wanted the kids meal, there was a tense pause. He declared that because of my age, I couldn’t have the toy.

While walking through a crosswalk recently, my pace was halted by a girl speeding around the corner while talking on her cell phone. She saw me at the very last possible second and slammed on her brakes. Our eyes met for a brief second, and then she honked.

Campus solicitors annoying, but overall, not too bad

Last Wednesday morning was not going well for me. I woke up at 9:48 and had to be at class by 10 a.m., so my first class was spent zoning out on the whiteboard and wishing a mocha would materialize before me. En-route to my next class, while fumbling with my bike lock, a friendly voice said “Hi!” Since it’s my first semester at CSUN, I don’t know anybody and pretty much don’t have any friends, so as I lifted my head, I cynically thought to myself, “They must want money.
