It started with exactly 10 minutes left in the second half with the Matadors down 45-32. Center Jasmine Erving had just made a jumper. Forward Violet Alama got a layup 29 seconds later. Then, with 8:35 left to go, Alama drained CSUN’s only trey of the game to cut UC Davis’s lead to 10. And then they came out like pink bats out of hell. Northridge (16-10 10-3 Big West) made clutch baskets and defensive stops, and outscored the Aggies… Read more

As the Big West Conference comes to an end, the Matadors find themselves in a good position. With a league record of 8-3, CSUN (14-10) is by itself in first, but there’s no relaxing for this team. “We can’t be comfortable because we need to come out hard every single time,” guard Ashlee Guay said. But with only five games left, every match becomes more important than the next. With Pacific (14-9, 7-4) coming to the Matadome Thursday night with… Read more

Despite rallying to cut a halftime deficit sending the game into two overtime periods, CSUN (14-10, 8-3 Big West) came up short in a 75-72 loss to Long Beach State (10-14, 5-6) Saturday night at the Matadome. It was the 49ers’ big offensive push at the beginning of the second overtime period that hindered the Matadors’ chances of coming back. Three layups, two by LBSU guard Chantel Dooley and one by guard Alex Sanchez, put CSUN in back 67-61… Read more

After successful road trips to UC Riverside and UC Irvine last week, CSUN comes back to the Matadome for a three-game homestand, starting with Long Beach State Saturday night. Long Beach (9-14, 4-6 Big West) is on a three-game losing streak while the Matadors (14-9, 8-2) just tallied their fourth consecutive win in a blowout against the Anteaters, but these wins have not gotten to Northridge’s head. “We never talk about anybody else. IRVINE – Consistency was something CSUN head coach Jason Flowers has rarely seen with his team. In most of their Big West Conference wins, the Matadors have usually found themselves either trying to hold on to a slim lead or coming back from a deficit. “Some games we put together 20 minutes, some games 15. In some games we turn it off after five and some games where we didn’t show up at all,” Flowers said. That wasn’t the case… Read more

It was yet another down-to-the-wire match for the Matadors, whose outlook looked bleak after being down by 13 points at halftime, but CSUN (13-9, 7-2 Big West) pulled it together and got the 64-58 victory over UC Riverside (4-17, 2-7) Thursday evening at the Student Recreation Center.
