CSUN men’s basketball falls apart in second half against Santa Clara, enter Big West play with losing streak

CSUN head coach Bobby Braswell sat calmly in his chair, while watching his team fall behind by as much as 26 points in the second half against Santa Clara on Wednesday night. Instead of expressing disgruntled emotions on the bench, which Braswell is known for doing at times, he opted to be patient with his young team and told them to keep competing. Braswell had plenty of reasons to chew his team out as the Matadors lost, 99-79, against the… Read more

CSUN men’s basketball on three-game losing streak

A costly offensive rebound and a large disparity in free throws were reasons why the Matadors got swept 2-0 on their Colorado road trip. Cal State Northridge (2-6) scored more baskets and grabbed more rebounds in each game, but still fell short against Air Force Academy, 72-63, on Thursday and the University of Denver, 66-63, on Saturday. Northridge out-rebound its opponents 80-52, but only went to the free-throw line 52 times compared to the Falcons and Pioneers combined 75 attempts. … Read more

Young Matadors deliver on the court

After an exhibition victory over Redlands on Nov. 5, CSUN head coach Bobby Braswell said he didn’t know what to expect from his eight freshmen as they headed into the season-opener at UCLA. Braswell didn’t anticipate a lot from the first-year Matadors starting their collegiate careers on a big stage like Pauley Pavilion. However, it was the Northridge returnees that struggled against the Bruins. With the game out of reached by the start of the second half, Braswell pulled his… Read more

CSUN men’s basketball benefits from 76 Classic

A sixth-place finish with a 1-2 record in the 76 Classic was fine for CSUN head coach Bobby Braswell. Maybe a dominate Matador (2-4) victory over the Big East’s DePaul and Lenny Daniel’s stellar play during the Thanksgiving weekend tournament at the Anaheim Convention Center was enough to satisfy Braswell. “This tournament is fantastic. I have absolutely no negatives for our program,” Braswell said after the Matadors lost to Tulsa Sunday in the final game of the 76 Classic. “It’s… Read more
