Every Valentine's Day, there is an equality demonstration, the "Freedom to Marry Day," outside the Yolo County clerk's office, where same-sex couples apply for a marriage license.

The United Auto Workers Union, Local 4132, the union of academic student employees, has filed an unfair labor practice against the California State University for failing to disclose almost $4.3 million while claiming they did not have the budget to pay for student worker fee waivers.

Book criticizes young women, corrupting the message

Author Laura Sessions Stepp has recently written a book titled "Unhooked: How Young Women Pursue Sex, Delay Love, and Lose at Both," but the title is misleading and the author writes like a disapproving mother figure, in spite of the fact that the women interviewed are intelligent, insightful and much better judges of our culture than she gives them credit for.

Faculty votes for strike

The California Faculty Association, the voice of the California State University faculty, voted Wednesday to decline the contract proposed by the CSU and have a series of strikes across all 23 campuses. The CFA and the CSU have completed the final steps of negotiating a contract and are currently in a blackout period where the findings of the fact-finder, or mediator, are undisclosed.

CSU Board of Trustees approves 10 percent fee increase

The California State University Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to approve a 10 percent increase in student fees, making the CSU undergraduate tuition for one academic year to $3,421. Chancellor Reed and the Trustees reiterated numerous times that they would apply to the state government for an increase in the CSU budget or for the governor to buy out the student fee increase as he did in the 2006-2007 academic year, but the crowd present for the vote and one of the trustees were not convinced.

The Associated Students is the student government, elected by the students to work for the students. Throughout the past year, the loyal CSU faculty has been fighting faithfully for the students while they fight for a living wage for themselves. And CSUN students have been supporting them.

Black Panther Party leader speaks at Grand Salon

The co-founder of the Black Panther Party regaled a room packed full of students, faculty and members of the community with stories of the inception and history of the party Wednesday night in the Grand Salon. Students of various ethnicities were sitting at tables, standing in the back, or sitting on the floor of the room in order to listen to the 74-year-old's memories.

CSUN community gathers to inform through picketing

At one point, there were 188 students, faculty and employees picketing alongside Sierra Center on Darby Street for a little over an hour to protest CSU contract negotiations, a possible rise in student fees and executive perks. Chants such as "Hey, hey what do you say? Give us a contract right away! Hey, hey what do you say? We want classes right away! Hey, hey don't delay! Stop the perks right away!" and signs reading, "Fund more classes, not exec asses!" dominated the sidewalk.
