M.E.Ch.A. gets more funds from A.S.

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A.) were allocated additional funds for its upcoming youth conference at the Associated Students meeting Feb. 21. M.E.Ch.A. was given an additional $800 after much debate on how much the club should be funded for its RAZA Youth Conference.

NCOD gets grant for national study

Daily Sundial The National Center on Deafness and the Deaf Studies Department received a grant to determine the national number of sign language interpreters. The national grant provided by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf is $19,933, said Shelley Bartenstein, NCOD grant writer.

New legislation corrects discrimination loophole

Daily Sundial A recently enacted California law clarifies that the California State University must adhere to state anti-discrimination codes, closing a loophole found after a court decision exempted the system from doing so. “Unfortunately, there was a little wrinkle in the statute,” said Kevin Baker, staff counsel of the Assembly Judiciary Committee in Sacramento.

Fake cash found; $100 bills refused

Daily Sundial Ten campus stores will no longer accept $100 bills, and all paper money will be checked regularly due to the recent increase of counterfeit bills circulating on campus said university officials. The University Corporation, which manages several stores on campus, enacted new policies in late 2005 after various stores received fake bills.
