The Assad Brothers took center stage and delivered a performance that could be called a musical and cultural journey through the power of two acoustic guitars Saturday at the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall. The two Brazilian-born brothers, Sérgio and Odair Assad, have gained popularity through years of innovative performances and collaborations with notable artists like Yo-Yo Ma. With nothing more than just two chairs, a small amplifier and a microphone, the Brazilian composers delivered an enjoyable performance with little… Read more

New TBS show, “Glory Daze,” flunks with its premiere episode

Before NBC’s “Community” captured the hearts of primetime TV, Fox’s acclaimed yet prematurely cancelled “Undeclared” prevailed as a fabulous college show. Therefore, TBS rationalized and risked producing a show with a college setting. “Glory Daze,” the latest college TV dud, is their latest attempt. For the past two years, TBS has marketed their network as “Very Funny,” but failed to live up to their slogan. Beyond reruns, Conan O’Brien and Tyler Perry, TBS offers meager substance. George Lopez’s talk show… Read more

The cultures of eating and art met at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Sunday, where visitors were treated to tasty exhibits about the different aspects of food. CSUN Alumni create an open-mic night with a play that works the acts in to a cohesive event

As the four-piece indie band finishes their short set, a collection of friends, family and curious couples applaud. The room is near full. It’s Friday night at what could be any one of a number of open-mic nights in the Valley- except for the princess lying dormant just behind the kick drum, her worried father pacing madly amid the amps and the court jester skipping over the guitar cords. The scene is part of “The IN,” a mixture of scripted… Read more
