With over 33,000 students, CSUN is no stranger to colorful personalities, and a new freshman has danced his way onto campus. “Right now, I’m planning on going out for the dance team or the cheer squad,” Christian Vidaure said. Foster youth face unique obstacles getting through higher education

Former foster youth who attend institutes of higher education require more assistance in their college career, Superior Court Judge Zeke Zeidler said in a presentation to CSUN students Wednesday. These youth have unique barriers to receiving higher education, said Zeidler, CSUN alumnus and former president of Associated Students. At first, it was a pipe dream, but the decision to move from Louisiana to California came easily for Ashley Samson. “I’ve always loved California and how it has so many outdoor activities,” Samson said, an assistant professor in the kinesiology department. “During my job hunt, it so happened this position opened up. Congress defeats jobs bill for second time in two weeks

Congress defeated a bill for the second time in two weeks that could have potentially allowed California to support 37,300 education jobs. The Senate voted down a $35 million piece of President Obama’s $447 billion American Jobs Act on Thursday. The bill was 60 votes. Associated Students get details about new Student Recreation Center

There are only a few months until the new Student Recreation Center (SRC) opens, and the facility is undergoing its ‘punch list’ phase, when the building is inspected. Visitors were able to tour a post-war Los Angeles through an African-American perspective during a celebration of jazz and the opening reception of a photography exhibit Sunday in the VPAC. The Miles Davis Experience  featured a jazz production by the Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet.  The performance chronicled not only the work of Davis, but the historical context that surrounded the jazz music scene during that decade. Shannon Krajewski, associate director marketing and programs for the USU, discussed the FAQ that would go on its new Student Recreational Center material and revealed some information in doing so. The SRC website stated the $130 membership fee will be included as part of the USU fee, bringing the total fee to $250. Deaf and hard-of-hearing students find glitch in suspected gunman notifications

Deaf and hard-of-hearing students found a slight glitch in the system when it came to getting the emergency notification regarding the suspected gunman on campus Sept. 27. “The emergency notification system worked well except that I didn’t get the emergency text,” said senior Kailyn Aaron-Lozano, referring to the text message she was supposed to have received instead of the phone call other students received.
