Live from the Staples Center is the 58th annual GRAMMY awards. Hosted by LL Cool J, some of the expected highlights of the events include a David Bowie tribute by Lady Gaga, a Kendrick Lamar-Taylor Swift showdown, and a return to the big stage by queen Adele. We’re all crossing our fingers that Kanye will do something, too. It wouldn’t be an awards show without Mr. West interrupting someone, or pretending to interrupt someone or running for president. Looking for a laugh? From its humble beginnings in 2008 as a free weekly stand-up night in Brooklyn, Big Terrific has found a new West Coast home. Founders Jenny Slate “Bob’s Burgers,” “House of Lies,” Gabe Liedman writer, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Kroll Show,” and Max Silvestri “Recipe For Disaster” regularly cultivate a lineup of comedians. Disguise: Masks & Global African Art @ Fowler Museum
On Wednesday, be sure to visit “Disguise: Masks & Global African Art” exhibit at the Fowler Museum at UCLA. Contemporary works of 12 artists from Africa or of African decent will be showcased from now until March 13. The exhibition explores “the art of masking as a transformative process” through a multitude of artistic mediums, such as optical illusion, computer graphic design and virtual reality.

February 19 kicks off a two-week exhibit hosted by CSUN’s Illustration Club, in the West Gallery of the Art & Design Center. The gallery is located on North University Drive, between Lindley and Etiwanda Streets. Support local artists and fellow Matadors. The event runs until March 3.

Los Angeles Air +Style festival @ Exposition Park
Presented by Shaun White, LA’s Air + Style event is the first can’t-miss festival of 2016. Held at Expo Park at the L.A. Coliseum, Air + Style is “a global event series that blends live music, action sports, art, and culture.” In its second year, prepare for a weekend of epic proportions…most notably a 16-story mega-snowboard ramp. Saturday’s must-see performer is Belgium’s funk dj, Netsky, but be sure to catch A$AP Ferg and the valley’s own, Haim.

DIIV w/ La Sera @ The Echo
Is it Monday already? This show is going to be your saving grace. DIIV, a 4-piece shoegaze band from Brooklyn, is celebrating new beginnings. Their February 6 release, Is The Is Are, is thematically redemptive, considering the last few years for Zachary Cole Smith and his bandmates were plagued by drug addictions, jail time and homelessness. La Sera, fronted by former Vivian Girl “Kickball” Katy Goodman, is an impossibly pristine blend of punk, jangly-pop and alt-country. Imagine a cross-pollination of Morrissey and The Pretenders.
