The CSUN men’s golf team opened its season on Monday at the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic at Lantana Country Club in Lantana, Texas. The two-day tournament, which was cut short by one round because of severe weather, was won by Western Kentucky who edged out the tournament host, North Texas for the win. Cal State Northridge finished in tenth place with a score of 300.
The individual title went to Louisiana-Lafayette’s Devin Carrey who won in a three-way playoff after finishing the two days with a five-under-par 139. Senior Aaron Hobbs had the best individual score for the Matadors, finishing the tournament tied for 19th with a 2-over-par 146. It was the sixth time Hobbs has finished in the top 20 out of the 12 tournaments he has played for Northridge.
As for the rest of the Matadors, freshman Nick Delio finished tied for 36th with a five-over-par 149. Junior Chris Satterlee finished tied for 42nd with a six-over-par 150, junior Clint Oleson finished 54th with a ten-over-par 154, and junior Eric Jarvey finished tied for 58th with a 14-over-par 158.
Next up for the Matadors is The Shootout at Angel Park in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sept. 30-Oct. 1.
