L.A County Christmas Tree Lighting @ Music Center Plaza

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, holiday tunes, rampant holiday sales and the closest chance Los Angeles has at seeing that a true winter is upon us. The city will hold its own tree lighting with music provided by the Antelope Valley Master Chorale and the Brass Pacifica ensemble. Hot chocolate is also provided for all who attend.

The story of young love on an island unfolds in this film by Wes Anderson. Ironically, the young protagonists, who are only 12 years old, are sometimes more mature than the adults they interact with. However, things get complicated when a storm heads towards the island, to which the adults try to track down the pre-teen lovers.

Enchanted Forest of Light @ Descanso Gardens

This is not quite a walk in a winter wonderland, but this lighted walk through a one-mile portion of Descanso Gardens offers a colorful view of the botanical gardens at night. Entrance times vary based on the tickets, starting every half-hour after 5 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance through the garden’s website.

The Animal Museum Grand Opening

What started as a website in 2012 will now have its own physical presence as a museum dedicated to animals. The museum boasts its unique collection of exhibits as it’s the only museum in the area specifically about the animal kingdom. Some exhibits include a look at the cat lady stereotype and the history of the animal protection movement in America.
